Although the little upside down chick pipped first, he was the last one out! But at least he did make it out all by himself!
Here you can see the second one hatching and the one with the window still inside:
I had pretty much given up on the first little one and was determined not to help him or her out in any way so imagine my surprise when Tuesday morning there were three little black fluffballs cuddling in the mini incubator!
Now what to do with only 3 little chicks? I ended up putting them back in the Brower incubator which is round and has a 40 watt lightbulb in the middle for the next few days....they seem pretty comfortable in there but now they are starting to make more of a mess so I have set up the first brooder box out in the shed and hopefully I can get them out there today.
We have 6 dozen eggs ready to go in the OvaEasy 190 today and so I plan to load it around 1:00 PM....so hopefully there will be lots more chicks by the end of the month!
Here they are all fluffy and cute:
What a cute incubator! Must be fun to have a great view of what's going on like that. You have a OvaEasy 190? Oooooo! Lucky you! I was looking at them the other day. Hubby was trying to sweet talk me with incubator talk. They look like nice machines. Would love to hear more about it! ;)
ReplyDeleteI think the OvaEasy incubators are great, I bought a used one, an older model which can't work with the humidity modules but it seemed so well made( we had to open it up and replace a fan after a power surge from our generator) and held temp so good that I splurged on another one which did connect up with a humidity module. I use the newer one for incubating and then fill up the water reservoir in the old one and use it for hatching in.
ReplyDeleteIt is more expensive than the Sportsman but is so much quieter and uses less power and looks just like a bar fridge. Since I keep it in my finished basement I liked that.
My son has the mini eco and it is so cute, great for small hatches but fairly expensive I guess for the capacity....
